During this pandemic we may be faced with more free time to ourselves, with that free time we may be evaluating our current situations. Now as we reflect and dive into these things, we may think about certain relationships, finances, career moves, mental health etc. But are we reflecting on our own toxicity? Are we owning that dark side of us? It can be envy, coping mechanisms that were never any good for us, procrastination and continuously complaining about trying to be more healthy but we are not consistent with our workouts and eating better. Do you feel attacked now? How is this toxic? Well is it bringing you any growth, is it making you a better version of yourself?

I’m for sure owning up to all of my toxicity, by simply identifying and bringing awareness to it. That in itself is growth the next step is bring action to those changes. We are all different and what works for me may not work for you. May I also add that we shouldn’t stress so much on it to the point that its taking us down into a funk. Baby steps, accountability & awareness is key here. We are a work in progress and letting go of old ways doesn’t happen overnight, it takes time sis.

Some things that have been helping me to own my sh*t, is for sure therapy. I cannot stress the importance of this in your life, to my brown & black communities if you decide to implement therapy in your life it does not mean that you’re the loca (crazy) one in the family. It means that you were strong enough to admit that you need extra help through therapy. Next one is a life coach, these two are not the same thing, a life coach not only helps you figure out professional goals you also dig into your personal traits & characteristics and this will you help you so much for your growth. For both approaches I highly recommend that you find the right therapist and life coach, chemistry is important and the level of trust needs to be there so you can reap the most benefits.

You may not have access to these things right now and that’s ok. Other avenues are support groups, I like to call these groups “communities” because they are interactive with others & its more personable. They have so many on fb, there is also virtual classes & workshops. Once it’s safe to gather in the world then you can attend these groups & workshops and you will be surrounded by like minded women and who knows you may find a mentor or a network of women that will be life changing for your growth. Self help books are amazing too if you like to read & you are willing to do the exercises that the book requires you to do. A book that I’m currently reading is “You can heal your life” by Louise L. Hay. This book is beautiful and vibrant aesthetically but the reading content is even better. Give it a try!

Again, remember we are a work in progress & awareness is key. We can be all & do all at our own pace, but we have to put in the work to get there and own the beautiful & ugly parts of ourselves to really evolve to a better version of ourselves. May you have a beautiful Sunday, do some self care & prepare for the week ahead.
